About Merkl

Merkl is the leading financial infrastructure for onchain money streaming. Finance is moving onchain: stablecoins, tokenized stocks and funds, onchain payments. Each of them comes with money that has to stream to someone: dividends to shareholders, interest to stablecoin holders, salaries to employees. Merkl is how that money gets there. Stablecoin issuers, fintechs, neobanks, tokenized funds, and DeFi protocols use us to calculate and send yield, dividends, rewards, and payouts.

Since July 2023, we have distributed $1.8B+ to 5M+ wallets across 60+ chains, for 1000+ companies including Coinbase, PayPal, Robinhood, Kraken, MetaMask, and Uniswap. We are independent, and the global leader in our category.

We're looking for a Product Designer to help build the next phase of Merkl.

Team

Merkl is a small team of 20 people. You'll report to our Head of Product and work directly with the people making product decisions, with room to challenge an approach and see your ideas ship quickly.

The role is hybrid, with at least 3 days a week at our office in central Paris. We prefer a permanent full-time contract (CDI), and we're also open to freelance.

Missions & responsibilities

As a Product Designer at Merkl, you will design both sides of our platform: Merkl Studio, where companies launch and run their yield and reward programs, and the Merkl App, where 200,000+ people a month discover and earn them. You'll also shape our brand. You'll tackle familiar fintech challenges in an onchain environment: making financial information clear, building trust and simplifying complex workflows.

Specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding our users and product through research, conversations and usability testing.
  • Exploring, prototyping and testing ideas with Product and Engineering.
  • Owning UX and UI through to production, staying involved as engineers build.
  • Evolving our Figma design system, with components and principles the team can use.
  • Strengthening Merkl's visual identity across our products.

We're advanced users of AI, with tools embedded in our day-to-day product and engineering workflows. As a designer, you'll use AI to explore ideas, build working prototypes and shorten the path from concept to production.

What we offer

By joining the Merkl team, you will be part of one of the most innovative and fast-growing teams in onchain finance. We offer the opportunity to work with an ambitious team, shipping quickly and making an impact in the industry. For full-time positions, we provide:

  • A highly stimulating intellectual environment: You'll collaborate with some of the best people in onchain finance, on systems that move real money for Coinbase, Robinhood, and PayPal.
  • AI-native from day one: AI is only as good as the data it can reach. Our internal MCP server safely connects your agents to all of our databases, so they work with real context from scoping to production.
  • An AI stack that learns with the team: We turn repeated work into shared skills and agents, such as protocol integration, prod debugging and scoping. You start with the know-how the team has built up, not a blank page.
  • Growth and future opportunities: Be part of an independent, rapidly scaling company, working on the infrastructure that shapes the future of finance.
  • Salary: €55–65k gross per year, with flexible working hours, ensuring a healthy work-life balance.
  • Health insurance: Alan, 100% paid by Merkl for you and your dependent children. French law only requires employers to pay half, and only for the employee.
  • Paid time off: Five weeks of paid leave, plus RTT days.
  • Flexible benefits: For meals, transport and wellbeing, plus a Wellpass membership.
  • Equipment stipend: We provide you with the tools and devices you need to optimize your work environment and fit your working style.
  • Central Paris office: Work together in the heart of Paris, with regular team events.
  • Team retreats: Every year, you'll have the chance to join the team on retreats to reflect on our journey, plan for the future, and bond while having fun in exciting locations.

You are

You're a product designer who enjoys making complex things simple. We're looking for someone who is:

  • Curious: You want to understand financial concepts, technical constraints and how our product works. No crypto background needed: you'll learn the onchain side with us.
  • Practical and collaborative: You explain your choices, help unblock engineers and know when a quick prototype is enough.
  • Autonomous: You identify problems and move forward without a detailed brief.

You have

  • 3+ years designing and shipping digital products end to end.
  • Strong product and UX thinking, a good visual eye and solid Figma skills.
  • Hands-on experience using AI for design or prototyping.
  • A portfolio that shows the problems you tackled, the decisions you made and what shipped. Share it when you apply.

Bonus:

  • Experience in fintech, consumer products or SaaS.
  • Knowledge of crypto and DeFi.

You don't need to tick every box to apply. If your experience aligns with the essential requirements, we'd love to hear from you, even if you don't meet every preferred qualification. We welcome relevant skills gained in other roles or industries.

Process

Our hiring process has 5 steps and usually takes about a week, depending on your availability:

  • Screening [30 mins]: interview with a team member, deep dive into your background
  • Design case [1 hr live or 2 hrs at home]: your choice between a live exercise with the team and a take-home study that you then present to us
  • Design interview [1 hr]: walkthrough of your portfolio, interview on job-specific skills
  • Cultural-fit interview [1 hr]: interview with potential future team members
  • Final interview [45 mins]: conversation with co-founders

AI tools are allowed for the take-home case, as they would be on the job. We'll discuss your choices in the interview that follows.
